E3 2012 | Bellator: MMA Onslaught

by Nick KeoganJune 25, 2012

This might be an overstatement, but this has the potential to be best downloadable game of this year.

For those of you who have been hiding under a rock for the past several years (no offense to Patrick from Spongebob), Bellator Fighting Championship is a Mixed Martial Arts tournament.  Bellator Fighting was previously on MTV2, but has received so much success that it is now on SpikeTV. With Bellator’s newly found success, SpikeTV and 345 Games are set to release Bellator: MMA Onslaught this summer.

Being a mixed martial artist myself, having studied Byakuren Kenpo, Brazilian Jiu-jistu, Wrestling, Hapkido, and Judo, I was excited to see where they will take MMA games. I met with Matt Mcenerney, Senior Producer, and Carlos Giffoni, Creative Director, from 345 Games at E3 to talk about Bellator: MMA Onslaught. Below are some videos of the demonstration. It’s hard to hear the interview, but it will definitely answer a lot of questions about the game.

As you watch the video, you will notice that this a more arcade style fighting game. The way they blend the arcade style with a realistic, almost simulation feel, is refreshing for the genre. A big part of the game with be the Create A Fighter feature. You will be acle to customize the look and fighting style of your fighter. Some of the fighting styles to choose from are Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Kickboxing and several styles. As the Bellator continues to grow, 345 Games will support and update the game with new moves and styles, weight classes, fighter selections and additional content. Having said all that, the very best part of this game is the fact that it will only be $15 at day one. If you are looking for a high quality game for $15, this is the game to grab for sure. Enjoy the video and screenshots and let me know what you think in the comments below.

I liked how TNA had Bjorn Rebney from Bellator Fighting Championship as a guest last night. My question to you is if you think gestures like that and other affiliations TNA has had in the past will be beneficial for the future?

SpikeTV- TV for men and Lifetime- Television for women.
Spike has explosions, violence, gross stuff, video games, and cartoons
Lifetime has drama and soap operas
Why are we stereotyped in this fashion? I know so many more women that prefer the first one and plenty of guys that are drama queens.

I don’t know for some reason I never liked Ultimate fighter. I became a UFC fan through watching those European UFC events on Spike. I can’t stand Ultimate fighter live. For some reason it’s so boring. I don’t know why!? The finales are always great though!
justin: sure you have it…it’s no mtv2

I don’t like to say a person was lucky in a fight, but Warren is not a better fighter than Joe Soto or Patricio “Pitbull.”

I respect Warren, but Soto will take that title back. Soto was to cocky in the last fight.

Warren is too 1 dimensional to successfully defend his title.

    Question 1:

Do you think Joe Warren will successfully defend his title?

    Question 2:

What is your favorite Bellator fight of this year?

How do you feel about the Frausto/Fujii fight?
I believed it was pure BS.
I’ve watch that fight over and over and I just do see how Zoila could have won that fight.

I can’t find anything about their drug testing policies nor a record of Bellator fighters that have been tested.

So far I have been watching a lot of Bellator mma and I see better fights and better events then what UFC has. Plus during Bellator’s season, they have an event every week where as the UFC only has one every three weeks. I feel like I’m getting a lot more out of Bellator then the UFC.

  • Jonathan

I was watching old highlights of bellator on the tv so i thought i did. I live in Philadelphia and I have Directv. what channel # would it be? Im not sure if i have fox sports net. I definietly dont have comcast sports net.

I’m sorry; I’m not very well versed on this stuff at all — I’m clueless, which is why I’m coming here for help.

My boyfriend is pretty into MMA; his birthday is coming up, and I’m looking to get him tickets to an event in the Chicago area. Now, there is one event on May 15th in the Aragorn Ballroom. It’s something called the Bellator Fighting Championships; what is that? I know he follows UFC; from what I could gather online it’s not connected with the UFC. Would this be an event you think would be worth getting him tickets to? Is it something that anyone who follows the sport would enjoy attending?

Again, I’m really not clear on what the event is, exactly, which is why I’m coming here for help… I’d ask him but I’d rather not ruin the surprise.

Any help whatsoever will be GREATLY appreciated; I’ll give best answer as well!

  • Milk84

I prefer UFC, but like both shows.

2nd question- Which tv show do you prefer: The UFC show on Saturday nights or Bellator show on Friday nights?

  • Blake

I thought that at the very least, Barrett won round 1 decisively, and I thought he did more than enough to win round 2 as well. I had it 29-28 for Barrett easy. Judges scored it 30-27 Grabowski. In my opinion, this decision was worse than Machida/Shogun 1. That fight wasn’t exactly close, but it was closer than this one. What does everyone else think?

  • Bryant B

Where can I watch Bellator Fighting Championships on cable on the west coast?
I don’t want to miss Hector Lombard vs. Paulo Filho!

Do you think Goodman will be signed by UFC? What will happen to Goodman?

  • Nick

We Have The UFC (on ESPN UK) and Strikeforce (on Bravo) but i have never seen a live WEC or Bellator event.

  • Clayton Cottrell

    Two questions
    1. Some fighters that just debuted in the UFC or bellator already have a pro score, where do they fight?

    2. If champions where to cross over and they lose do they also lose their title?
