E3 2012 – Star Wars 1313 Is Very, Very Impressive

by Jake ValentineJune 6, 2012

A few weeks ago, we received an invitation to view footage from an at the time unannounced project from LucasArts.

Before E3 began, we learned that the title was Star Wars 1313, not Battlefront 3 (we’re still dreaming), and would not feature any Jedi or Sith, but instead focus on the tale of a Bounty Hunter and the dangerous level 1313 underneath Coruscant. Naturally, LucasArts was hyping the new IP quite considerably, but after viewing the short demo, we can understand why.

From the get go, one thing is clear: this game is downright beautiful, leaving myself wondering just how this would ever run on current-gen hardware. Now, no systems, release date, or really any specifics were announced, other that the demo was running on a PC and the game was still in a very, very early pre-production phase. Regardless of how early it is, the game looks quite polished, though that can probably be chalked up to the fact that they worked their tails off on the brief demo. Before the gameplay started, we were given a brief overview of the development process which featured a lot of footage we eventually saw in the demo, as well as a signification motion cap process that pays off dividends in a similar style that L.A. Noire did.

Should you be in the belief that this was merely a coincidence, we can chalk up the impressive visuals, sounds, and set pieces due to the fact that Industrial Light and Magic, SkywalkerSound, and Lucasfilms Animation are collaborating with LucasArts as well, plus the involvement of Epic Games was overheard, though there wasn’t any specific mention of if it was Unreal 4. There was mention, however, of the fact that George Lucas is working closely with the game’s story, which may or may not be a good thing; that depends on which Star Wars fan you ask.

So while yes, we were all disappointed that instead of Battlefront 3 we got a brand new Star Wars IP with a funny name fresh off the heels of Star Wars Kinect. However, after watching the video demonstration, all of that disappointment has been replaced by anticipation. We know very little about Star Wars 1313 and hope that changes very, very soon.

What kind of games can we expect to see coming out of this?

  • Picean

The upcoming MMORPG takes place appx. 300 years after Knights of the Old Republic and the Sith Lord games. Why are they not releasing a KOTOR 3 instead?

  • Picean

It could contain Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and new graphics. I think it’s a great idea.

Please do not say “It’s called Empire at War”. You can say that if you want, but you would be wrong because they are two completely different games.

I saw a very early trailer of the game a few months ago. Has anyone seen it? I was wondering if it had a release date title and what gaming platform it was coming out on. From the video clips it looked like a jedi/lightsaber game with awesome force powers.

I am very serious about getting into the computer animation field and am 100% positive its what ill be doing the rest of my life. Ive been researching art schools in the US but ive found it very difficult to find art schools that are fit for me. I want to go to a school that is well recognized for its CA department and receives visits from major recruitors like pixar, dreamworks, sony, lucasfilm, etc. So far the only two colleges ive found that fit what im looking for are Ringling School of Art and Design and CalArts. Im definitely applying to Ringling, ive fallen in love with that school and it is my #1 choice, but there is always a possibility that i wont get accepted and ill need a backup school or two. Ive been looking at CalArts mainly because somebody on Yahooanswers asked about CalArts vs Ringling for someone who wanted to work for pixar and i think everybody who answered said definitely CalArts. so needless to say that school was automatically put on my radar. However i really am looking at working for Dreamworks, so i dont know if the reommendation still applies. On top of that, im not sure i would even want to go if i were accepted to CalArts because ive been reading some reviews online and the students who went there didnt have much positive things to say (take into consideration though that i couldnt find any reviews from Animation students). Also ive looked at student animations from CalArts and even though people have said that the best work comes from CalArts, (and the animations were pretty good), all ive seen is traditional, 2D animations. Do they not teach 3D? I feel like i need to know 3D animation to be successful in todays high tech animation field. Anyway i digress. What im trying to ask is, should i give CalArts a chance and is it a good school? What other art schools are out there in the US that are fit for me? Thanks :)

In which cases is it legal (under US law) for a bounty hunter to operate? I know that bounty hunters can be hired to capture those who use bail to avoid trial, but in what other circumstances could they operate?

i was watching that show about the bounty hunter named Dog or whatever they call him and i was wondering how one becomes a bounty hunter in the first place? is it some sorta special branch of the police? or is it something else entirely?

I have so far 34 combat 50 range 32 mage and 2 defence, what should I add to make it good for medium level member bounty hunter?

  • lucasg615

Okay, let’s say a bounty hunter is hunting someone with a $10,000 bond.

He doesn’t get all 10,000 (Does he?)

What percentage is taken (if any) and what would he get out of a bounty with 10,000 dollars?

Can the bail bondsman or bounty hunter show up at your place of employment to either collect their fee or gather more information on the person you bonded out? Is that legal?
