Fanatical Fashion | Vigilante Leather

by Jennifer KibbleJune 29, 2012

I’m not one for watches. I can even tell time just by how bright or dark it is outside, however I love video game accessories and I’ve always been a fan of watches with a leather cuff. Those who have played or know of Naughty Dog‘s Uncharted series might be aware that the game’s star, Nathan Drake sports such an accessory.

I’m not sure when or where I heard about Vigilante Leather, a shop on Etsy, but I knew of it and that the shop’s owner, David, creates replicas of the cuff watch as seen in Uncharted 2 and in Uncharted 3. After being a lurker for far too long, I decided to purchase one of his watches, which has led me to here, an article piece showcasing David and his work so that others are aware as well.

For the ladies…

The watches are custom sized and look outstanding, a must have for any Uncharted fan or anyone in the market for a watch. David currently has three styles that are in limited supply, so those interested should take action straight away. For the ladies, there’s the Ladies Fortune Hunter Leather Cuff Watch, and two styles for the men based off of Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 3. To sweeten the deal, Vigilante Leather is running a contest through his Facebook Page. For those who help in getting Vigilante Leather more followers, are given a chance at his Uncharted collection, which is massive! Also, the next fifteen buyers will be entered for a chance to win one of his new Uncharted designs, which will make their debut on September 12th, 2012.

ULTIMATE UNCHARTED SWAG GIVEAWAY!! Check out some of the great prizes I’ll be giving away to those who help SPREAD the WORD about VIGILANTE LEATHER!!! Each time I get a new follower I will welcome and ask them how they heard about my shop! If your name comes up the most then you will have your pick at one of these great UNCHARTED Items!! I will announce my WINNERS after the 100th and 200th FOLLOWER! ALRIGHT MY VIGILANTES READY.. SET.. GO!!!!!

I had the chance to toss a few questions to David and Vigilante Leather to get more of an insight on the man behind the leather and the artistic magic.

1. How did you get into crafting leather?

Working with leather has been a great experience and something I have really become attached to these past couple of months. I’ve always found myself fascinated with art and how things are made or work. I started off learning how to draw when I was two and I have never stopped. The great thing about art is that there’s always something new to be learned. How I actually got into the process of working with leather came from me being my curious self again and wanting to learn everything. I was actually playing through the Uncharted series when I noticed that for each game the protagonist changed his appearance with either a new clothing style, holster and even his belt buckle, which I really give props to Naughty Dog‘s designers for keeping it fresh. The one item that stuck out the most for me in the game was Drake’s leather wrist cuff. I’ve noticed similar designs over the years but nothing that really peaked my interest. This accessory was also one that changed between each game going from a simple leather cuff to adding a new style with the addition of a watch face. I was without a doubt the first in line when I heard how Naughty Dog was releasing a collectors addition for the third game and what was included in it. I admit, my inner geek did come out when I saw the ring and buckle for the first time and how much detail they put in each item. What I noticed though was as much as I loved the collectors edition and everything included there was still something missing. That one item that would complete the look to really make you feel like Nathan Drake. It is safe to say that the empty feeling I felt was enough for me to get started and I dove right into learning everything there was about leather crafting. I’ve been literally attached to my shop/office doing research and testing designs out. I am very proud of how my work has turned out and what my fans as well as the Uncharted fans have to say about it. I really do feel like I have accomplished so much in such little time! and I can’t wait to see where this new found art takes me.
2. Why Uncharted? Are you a fan of the series?

I have always and will continue to be a huge fan of everything Naughty Dog. I’ve been a fan since the beginning with Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, and yes my favorite the Uncharted Series and will continue to be one next year with The Last of Us, which is already looking to be a game that will dominate the globe. Everything Naughty Dog does defines what it means to make a game come to life and they know exactly what it takes to make something that everyone will love and remember over the years. It’s the huge impact they have made on gamers that lets us know why they are and will continue to be the best. Uncharted for me was like being born again with games. It has made me feel like it was truly the first game I’ve ever played that I can really connect so well with the story and it’s characters. I read an interview a while back and Nolan North(MY IDOL), who voices Nathan Drake in the series, explained it perfectly the kind of hero his character is. “He’s not had the easiest life… what makes him so likeable is that he’s this guy who’s always just tried his best. And I think that’s something everyone can relate to. We’re all just trying our best here… sometimes we fail, and sometimes we succeed. He’s a vulnerable person, just like we are.” That right there is just one of the reasons Uncharted is my favorite series. From the incredible voice acting, the astounding animation, all the hard work that goes into making a successful series and the respect and gratitude I have to all the people responsible. So to answer your question yes I am a fan of the Uncharted series and forever will be.

3. Any advice for those wanting to start up their own small business?

First off, don’t let your fear control your life or your decisions. Instead, replace that fear with passion and excitement because you are ready to start something new with your life and you can’t wait to share it with everyone around you. Don’t let anything overwhelm you because remember you’re the boss and you can take your own time to understand how things work and how you’re going to run your business. Also, just like in school, don’t be afraid to ask questions. If you need help don’t forget you have unlimited resources to help you along your way whether it’s the Internet or your local shop in town because everyone had to start somewhere. Lastly, remember to have some fun with making your business, such as creating your name, website, or logo because this is going to represent you and what you love to do. Finally, have fun with your work and try not to let stress or anything else get in your way and remember that it is alright to take a break once and a while.

4. What got you into video games? Any favorite moments, favorite games/series?

Video games have always been a great memory for me from first starting with Super Mario Bros to the games I’m currently playing like Uncharted. I was around three years old when my cousin Christina first let me and my brother play her Super Mario Bros 3 for the NES. It really had an impact on me since it was the one thing me and my brother really connected with, which we still have so many great memories of playing. Since then, I pretty much upgraded with every new system that came out and the one that has kicked all others aside was the Sony Playstation! That system really got me into the world of gaming and I’ve been a Playstation fan ever since. As for series, again, Uncharted takes the crown but any others that I am also really into would have to be the Darksiders series by Vigil Games, which to be honest I started playing after I found out there was a video game studio with my last name in it! It made me proud! The game itself is phenomenal with such an amazing story, artwork and addicting game play. I cannot wait to see what Death brings to the table in Darksiders II. Another series would have to be the Assassin’s Creed series by Ubisoft. Again, amazing storyline and gameplay and the way it makes you wanting more. I’ve played them all and can’t wait for Assassin’s Creed III to finally get here so I can try out that tomahawk (which I’m considering making)! Lastly, the one I haven’t even played yet would have to be Naughty Dog‘s big release, next years The Last of Us which is looking absolutely incredible from what I’ve seen and heard. I will with out a doubt be first in line when that game comes out. I’m currently working for a video game store part time and it is the game I am pushing more then anything as well as Darksiders II, so if you walk into my store be prepared for an ear full about The Last of Usand Death!

5. Is there anything else you would like to share/add?

What I want to accomplish most with Vigilante Leather is to not only show people what I’m capable of but to leave them with the feeling that they’re also capable of doing anything. We are the only ones holding ourselves back from succeeding. What I have, and what we all can learn from, is to just try our best with everything we do and never give up on what we want.

Thanks go out to David and Vigilante Leather for taking the time out of his busy schedule to answer my questions. Make sure you take a look at his work and his Facebook page. His product is worth it and beautifully made for you.

Hi, I’m 16 and I live in England. Tell me what you think. ;D

    [Prologue]

‘He must be stopped’ stressed the detective.
Arnold Grieving, the town’s mayor, gave an almighty sigh as if to display the enormity of what has to be done. He sits himself down on a leather coated armchair by the fireplace in his office and then glides a hand through his, almost completely, grey hair with a dejected aura to him.
‘Well,” says the Mayor. “it’s easier said than done. This one man has eluded every police force in Ohio. What makes you think our little town can stop him?” He pauses for a moment and glances in the direction of the detective. ‘In fact, I believe we shouldn’t try and hinder his little escapades at all.’
A single bead of sweat trickled down the detective’s brow glistening in reflection to the fire in the hearth on the other side of the room. He wiped it away with the sleeve of his plaid jacket and as he heard the mayor say this he couldn’t help but whimper slightly. How could he say what he wanted to say so arduously without causing suspicion? A thought came to mind. He then clicks his jaw out of anxiety above anything else. ‘Arnold, I respect you and everything you stand for, but, how can you as mayor allow the killing of your own civilians like this.’
A certain edge crept into the mayor’s eyes. An edge of assurance, of clarity. He stares into space and a momentary silence hangs in the room. ‘Sable, don’t tell me how to do my job. Or how to run my own town. If you’re not guilty of any crime then why is it that you quiver whenever this “vigilante” is mentioned? What exactly are you afraid of?’
Damn, thought Sable, he noticed. He turns slightly, attempting to hide his flushed face. He takes a big breath, before turning completely and heading towards the door he used to enter the room.
‘Leaving so soon, Sable? It would be extremely rude of you not to welcome our guest.’
Sable hears this and automatically whips his gun out── but is too slow to react and the gun is sent flying into the wall to his left. His gun is pinned to the wall by a thin, gleaming steel knife. He gawks at it, stunned at how accurately it had been thrown. The knife was holding the gun up against the wall through the trigger hole.
‘Vincent Sable. Thirty two years of age, lives by himself, has a cat named Penny and is currently working with the Ohio State Investigative Squad, with the intention of finding and capturing the enigmatic man who has vowed to rid the world of all people who deserve to die.’
    That voice.
Sable slowly turns to face his assailant, and sees a mask staring back at him. A mask of black and red, with circular patterns spiralling out from the centre. This mask had black holes for eyes, yet these holes were empty, and the hollowness of them was what transfixed his gaze and didn’t let go. Everything goes black, but still he hears the faint whisper of that voice.
‘I am not the evil doer, Vincent, and this is not a fairytale. I am here to vindicate justice in the world, and you are but a single and minute step in the journey to redemption that I have chosen to embark on.’
The masked figure glares into Sable’s shocked and slightly pleading eyes and almost feels a touch of sympathy for him. Almost.
The masked man seizes him by the throat. ‘Did you not think you would be punished for your crime? Did you think that poor women’s screams for help could not be heard? As you raped her and killed her, did you not consider there to be any recompense for your actions? You are not fit to be human, and therefore this world must be cleansed and purified of your presence…’
The man utters but one final word.
    ‘Die.’
It may seem a tad overly descriptive to some of you, but this is necessary to set the scene. In most novels, they begin with heavy detail to ensure the reader understands the mood and tone of where the characters are. Just sayin’…

What are good superhero names and powers for:

    1. A female with a red leather costume. I need powers for her and a good name. So far I’ve come up with Scarlet Red or Red Rogue.

    2. A female with the powers of electricity, flight, and force shields. Her costume is yellow and silver. I need a good name for her.

    3. A male who is the leader (and possibly adoptive parent, I don’t know if he should be) of all the superheroes. I need good powers for him and a good name.

    4. A male who is an awesome sniper and good with guns, also has amazing vision so he can see the best. I need a good name and also some suit colours.

    5. A male who is…well I want him to be something cool like Dr. Manhattan from Watchmen. I want him to have some kind of freak accident and end up looking wierd. I need a name for him and some powers.

    6. A male, and I want him to have a cool name. I want him to be more of a vigilante than a superhero. He will go to jail in the comic. I want a good name and some powers, or skills. Maybe suit colours.

———–Also I need a good super villain idea. He might not even be super. But I need ideas. Maybe even an evil assistant or hench girl.

So please list all the good names, powers, and suit colours you can think of! Thanks in advance.

Well i am 6’8″, 320 lbs but i am extremely fast for my size and extremely strong i can bench 405 lbs, curl 80 lbs right arm 70 left, etc(sorry if i sound like a douche, i just want to get the point across), i am a boxer (sort of, i train but i don’t really compete, only people i know) and i do alot of weight lifting, and i live in a small town, but there are alot of robbery’s and muggings by punk ass kids and i am fucking tired of it. Not many people in the town know me, except for people at the gym and some other boxers (but the gym and my friends are in the city) and i am currently unemployed and living on inheritance. I think i am going to buy a point blank level IIIA bullet proof vest, Level IIIA ballistics face mask, leather gloves with steel knuckles, steel knee and elbow pads, black digital camo pants, and steel toe combat boots. Before i do i will study how to be more stealthy, and a little bit of martial arts (just how to disarm people), but maybe not because that will take a few years to learn, and i dont have that much time. Don’t call me stupid, i know this sounds ridiculous, can anyone help.

In the 1970s, the technology for the Goblin Glider was more crucially advanced than the development of the Rolls-Royce Pegasus turbofan jet engine being developed for the Hawker Siddeley Harrier GR.1/GR.3 and the AV-8A Harrier. The Harrier was being developed to be less reliant on runways.

What’s odd about this is that the Goblin Glider came on to the scene out of nowhere.

From 1926 to 1994 the New York City Police Department issued the Smith and Wesson Model 10 .38 Special revolver before adopting the 9 millimeter. During the mayoral term of Abraham Beame, Spiderman would have been operating as a vigilante in the New York area countering the Green Goblin crisis. Beame presided over the city during the fiscal crisis of the mid-1970s, during which the city was almost forced to declare bankruptcy. The Green Goblin supposedly had the residents of New York city terrified, yet New Yorkers are also known for their resiliency while under crisis. Spiderman superseded the New York City Police Department.

The Green Goblin would have already took off as about a dozen sky blue and white NYPD 1974 Plymouth Satellite cars would have pulled up into an alley. Some of the officers would have still been wearing the old wool style uniforms with brass buttons and had leather holsters instead of nylon. They would have been getting out of those cars with those .38s drawn and would have been towards Spiderman like, ‘…we don’t need your help. Mayor Beame doesn’t need your help.’ Pumpkin Bombs going off all over the place.

The GhostRider’s not just ordinary superhero but a demon like hero with a flaming skull and leather jacket with a chain around his chest now that’z cool.

but some people might believe that Ghostrider’s just another vigilante but also a hero cause even as scary as he looks he still save the innocent and look into evil’s eyes and turn all the evil against them so that’z good in a hero but The GhostRider as a superhero??

that’z something that you have to decide

I just bought a white sun dress from American Eagle that I am planning on wearing with cowboy boots on a date with my boyfriend. It has lace like material on the bottom of the dress and falls a little bit higher than my knees. I would post a picture but I couldn’t find it on the website. My cowboy boots are brown with a teal blue and white pattern on the sides. Any suggestions on what accessories I could wear?
    Thanks.

Hey, In a few years I want to attend the New York Film Academy and at this point in time I am writing screenplays. Recently I have had so many ideas for movies it’s been overwhelming. I am a big fan of James Cameron and Quentin Tarantino and these have stained my thoughts for movies.

My idea for a script I would love to direct (even with the NYFA’s help god knows how I would find finance) it is an idea that came to me when I could not sleep. A movie named “Black Mamba” it focuses on a lead character who is dressed in leathers and rides a classic motorycycle. The story is almost completely at night and the skyline plays a major part in displaying visually the loneliness this character feels. It is hinted at that he may be more than human ie the devil, a machine, vigilante. He comes across the dangerous “Black Mamba” gang. (Tarantino elements of Kill Bill)

I am trying to be original and only reference two directors to try and give you an idea of my story. Would it work what scenes
could I have and is it too much like the Terminator character?

I have a contemporary bedroom that has black furniture, white bedding, and light blue walls. What are some cool accessories that I could use to complement those colors?
Also, I already have some natural-looking things like bamboo plants and some mini cacti. Anything along those lines?

I am 16 years old… I’ve been feeling kind of depressed about everything. They way the world is, they way people treat other people. I’ve come to the conclusion that I am ultimately disappointed with the world and all the bad people in it. I want to save those who need it, whether they are good or bad. I obviously wouldn’t be able to choose who I save, although I would tie up the ones who need to be punished for the authorities or something. But, vigilantism is illegal and I would hate to have to constantly have to look over my shoulder waiting to be arrested. But, there are rules authorities have to follow. A vigilante, would not have to follow any to save those who need to be saved. I could be a spy/hero. Lurking around with a camera maybe recording what the guy does before stepping in. People need and deserve a hero… they need help and I just wish to God I could do something. People getting raped, murdered and tortured… police can’t do anything without evidence. Government doesn’t care. I do… Is there anything I can do to be what I want? I keep having this recurring dream. I am wearing all black leather. Pants, boots jacket with a black motorcycle helmet with a solid black visor. I a weaving through traffic on a BMW bike and it jumps to me getting thrown out of the third story of a building by an explosion caused by a fire… I died..Right, before I woke up there was a little kid in the back of an ambulance. Now, I know this is probably irrelevant to what I am asking… But, I’m curious. Do any dream interpreters know what this means?
Please, no smart-ass remarks. This is an honest question I asked at the risk of looking like an idiot….But, I could care less. I will find a way to make people pay for the things they do.
Let me just clarify… When I was describing the outfit. The leather is what you would see most people riding a sports bike wear.

I’ve always wondered about this Carrie Underwood song whenever it came on the radio… Before He Cheats would a woman get arrested for this in GA, TX, AL, etc? Even in the rural areas? Vigilante justice.

I dug my key into the side,
Of his pretty little souped up 4 wheel drive,
Carved my into his leather seats,
Took a Louisville Slugger to both headlights,
Slashed a hole in all 4 tires,
Maybe next time he’ll think before he cheats

That stinks – I’d like to think she could get away with it….. kind of like Urban Cowboy
