What We Played | September 3 – 9

by Jennifer KibbleSeptember 10, 2012

Welcome to Press Start! This is a weekly segment that dives into what we here at The Game Fanatics are currently playing. Feel free to leave a comment with what you’ve been playing or if you have any questions about the games that we are currently involved with.

Jeff: After the announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, I absolutely had to go back to my favorite series of all time. I reviewed the first game, which still holds up very well, but I had to take care of one blind spot that has been gnawing at me for some time now: Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops. I’m less than two hours in, but I’m already intrigued by where the story is going. I’ll definitely be playing this one all week. I jumped back into Gran Turismo 5 to knock out a few challenges, and I’m also putting some time into my 3DS. I’ll be reviewing a new eShop release later this week, but here’s a preview: I’m very impressed.

Jen: After coming home from PAX, the first game that I played was Transformers Fall of Cybertron. I had about an hour left of the game that I wasn’t able to finish before leaving for Seattle. Amazing game! If you’re a fan of Transformers, you need to play FoC. The story alone is better than both of the live action movies that were made. I then got the Leviathan DLC for Mass Effect 3. Not bad, but it did prompt me to want to get all the achievements for ME3, just as I had done with the last two games in the series. I was holding back from getting all the achievements in ME3 because I didn’t want to play multiplayer. And Bioware did mention that you don’t have to play online to get all the achievements, but you have to for one of them. So I caved in and started to play online and I actually enjoyed it. The ME3 multiplayer is a lot of fun and I had the chance to play with two fellow TGFers, John and Enis. Now I’m only one achievement shy from 100%, which is kill 5K enemies. I have little under 500 to go. I also picked up Rock Band Blitz via XBLA. It took me a little bit to get used to, but now that I have a feel for the game, I’m really enjoying it.

Joel: I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 as an elemental which is by far my favorite MMO toon since a fire blaster in City of Heroes (#savecoh) and have gotten deep into Dead Island open world zombie mayhem. Leveled up a few times in Mass Effect 3 multiplayer and started Just Cause 2. Too many games so little time.

Enis:  I noticed this week I’m starting to get my Halo urges back. I took a small hiatus from the game because I just got tired of leveling. Some reason, it’s back though. I’ve always been a hardcore Halo fan though so I’d never really stop playing. Been focusing on leveling up in Halo: Reach and still trying to complete Halo 3: ODST 100%. With the Operation this weekend for Mass Effect 3, I got the chance to play with Jen and John for a while. It was super fun and relaxing (I even dozed off one round). My main focus still right now is getting achievements completing them fully. I finished my Insanity run through of Mass Effect 3 with the Extended Cut and Leviathan DLC, won’t go into details about it, I’ll let my review speak for itself. Glad to complete that games single player, for now.

Ben: After PAX I got right back into Dark Souls and it still blows my mind how much I like it. It’s easily one of my favorite games of all time and I can’t wait to get to the new content.

Ok, I have been looking for this everywhere and I DID find it. I have to use the serpent trap on the giant scorpion. I know that it needs to hit the trap right when he starts to heal himself. The problem is that I can’t get him to do it. Has anyone else have this problem or is it just me. Did anyone have a trick or a special way to get that achievement. Thank You.

What was the greatest civil engineering achievement of the ancient world? Was is the Colosseum? Obviously the 7 wonders of the world are in contention, but it wasn’t the Colossus of Rhodes, since it was poorly designed and collapsed soon after completion. The pyramids are a construction achievement, not an engineering achievement, since they’re just big triangles (square pyramids to be precise).

    Here’s the deal:
My husband and I believe we conceived on our honeymoon at the end of August/early September. The following symptoms have been present for the last 3-4 weeks:
    -Nausea
    -Swollen and tender breasts
-So tired.. like a kid after spending the day at the zoo with no stroller tired. I’m sleeping from 10 or 11 at night to 11,12, sometimes even 1 in the afternoon because I can’t seem to get myself moving.
-Cramping (It’s not like period cramps, more like things tightening up, like squeezes in different places in my lower abdomen/pelvic area.) In the right lower abdomen, by my hipbone, there is a more consistant “squeeze” I’ve been feeling that seems to be a ligament or something that runs parallel to my hipbone.
-Bananas are suddenly the worst thing I can think of putting in my mouth (I loved them before.) And I can’t seem to get enough tomatoes. I liked them before, but I crave them more than chocolate now!
-I was emotional before, but now I’m crying over.. well tomato soup for example. (Things like this have made me cry at least once or twice a week for a month now.) My poor husband! lol He’s such a trooper :)

According to the date of my last period, I am 5 weeks, 3 days along.
However, all of the HPTs came back negative (I’ve taken at least 6 of them!)
Tuesday night, I went into the bathroom, and a clot came out, about the size of a bean :( but it didn’t look like there was a mass or any type of sac or anything. I was also having a pink mucous-y discharge that didn’t really come out on my panties, but there was soo much on the tissue.. and it seemed to just keep coming. I wore a pad the rest of the evening, but nothing else came out. It was too thick to be implantation, and I would be too far along for that anyway, right?
So then early Wednesday morning I woke up to a LOT of bleeding.. like a steady first day flow would be. I called and talked to a nurse, she asked me a ton of questions about my symptoms before and my symptoms now, and different things and then she recommended that I go to the emergency room in the next 4 hours. So my hubby called off work and we headed to the ER. They took some blood and an hour later told me that I was not pregnant. ?? I asked the doctor if it was possible that I had miscarried the night before, and he said “No, you’re not pregnant.” He then wanted to do a catscan to find out about the pain in my lower right abdomen, but I told him I didn’t want to have it. Something inside of me was absolutely sure that the catscan was a bad idea- and it wasn’t the money I was worried about. On the way home I remembered that Xray can be fatal to a fetus. If it was a false negative, they would have been risking the life of the baby before doing an ultrasound or anything to be 100% SURE there wasn’t anything there. Sorry, but 99.9% isn’t good enough for me.

I’ve since gone online and read about women who have had their periods like normal for 3 months into their pregnancies, with pregancy symptoms leading them to take HPT after HPT all coming back negative, and even blood tests at the doctor coming back negative, and then finding out at 4 or 5 months that they were pregnant the whole time.
SO.. now what? I know to eat healthy and take my prenatals (which I have) and to play it on the safe side (no alcohol smoking, drugs… all the stuff I’ve never touched anyway lol) and to keep tampons out and not have sex until the bleeding has stopped and I know for sure that I’m not pregnant.
But I mean.. has this happened to anyone else? Any additional info you think I should know? Am I missing something?

PS- I know you can psych yourself into pg symptoms if you want a baby badly enough, but I assure you this isn’t it. I didn’t even know that some of the symptoms I was having were pg symptoms until I looked them up online and they were. (Such as excessive saliva?!)
So please, I just want answers from people who really know alot about this or have experienced something similar, not the responses of opinions when you really don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve seen alot of that on here, and I don’t need any more confusion. Thanks.

  • Ssshhhh Im becoming aroused

It is “Too Much Contra” I typed it in so many times and it wont give me the achievement. Has anyone else had problems?

What would you consider to have been the most wonderful moment or greatest achievement of your life (not including having children) and what did you achieve and how and why did you do it?
Also, on the flip side what was the worst situation you ever faced in your life, what were the consequences and ultimately what lesson did you learn from it?
    Thank you.
