Heroes of Ruin looks to Grab Hardcore Gamers' Attention

It is no secret that Nintendo hasn’t ever really aimed their guns to the hardcore crowd. Traditionally, all the hardcore games have been first-party titles while most 3rd party titles were core-player games. Square Enix, the same mastermind behind the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts series, is focusing on the action RPG player. This new title, Heroes of Ruin looks impressive and could be one of the many stepping stones into the hardcore market for the 3DS.

First off, the action RPG style gameplay looks similar to other hit games like the Diablo series for PC and the unreleased Infinity Blade Dungeons on iOS. This means that the game is capturing a different style of hardcore gamer. If you’re waiting for the first FPS title on the 3DS, your best option is to wait for the Conduit to rear it’s head on the 3DS. Like Diablo, the characters are highly customizable in the sense that you can choose different armor and weapon combinations to make your hero as personal as you wish.

Easily one of the coolest features of the game is the range of online accessibility that’s been added to the game. You’ll be able to trade weapons and other items with other players around the world, and after you’re done trading, you can jump into 4-player co-op to wreak havoc.

Heroes of Ruin definitely has caught my eye, and I’ll sure be looking for it when it hits store shelves on July 17 in North America and two days earlier in Europe.
