Vice President of Operations: 8 Bit Brit

8 Bit Brit

Brittany D. also known as “8 Bit Brit“, has been a part of The Game Fanatics team for years. She started off as a contributor and worked her way up to becoming the Vice President of Operations. During the day she is an online reputation manager and SEO specialist. 8 Bit Brit is married and is a new mom living on the West Coast. Originally from Chicago and raised in Hawaii and California, she now lives in the wild Wild West since meeting her husband. She met her husband while playing WoW (pre-TBC, you know when raiding was hard) and they now have a beautiful gamer-to-be daughter. 8 Bit Brit has been playing video games since Atari and fell in love with the culture when receiving her first console, the NES. Fondest memories of her childhood were spent fighting over candy in Bubble Bobble with her sisters.

8 Bit Brit has a soft spot in heart for gaming. Once a “pro” Call of Duty tournament player, she does not have time to travel and play in tournaments anymore. Those times have quieted down since her little one. That doesn’t mean she can’t wreck your game one handed while feeding her baby. She is one of the top gaming females in the industry and a force to be reckoned with. With FPS favorites like Call of Duty and Halo, you can also find 8 Bit Brit online most evenings, running her mouth and weakening opposing opponent’s moral… Her gamer tag is VIVA LA TIG3R on XBL. She also hosts a majority of the Xbox Community Nights for The Game Fanatics so add her to your friends list.

Other game favorites of 8 Bit Brit are Pokemon, Harvest Moon, The Legend of Zelda and Kingdom Hearts. A true gamer at heart you also have to be wary of her pranks. As a master “Rick Roller” she will blindside you good ole’ Rick and other internet memes. She is currently addicted to Marvel: War of Heroes on her Android and writes on her own personal blog, 8BitBrit.com featuring art, fashion and nerdy gear when she has free time.  You can find 8 Bit Brit blabbing about pop culture like Star WarsTrue Blood, Transformers and comic book characters like Iron Man. She is probably one of the only females known to man that knows more about Star Wars than the average man8 Bit Brit loves her family and her family at The Game Fanatics. Follow her on Twitter (TGF_8BitBrit) to see what she has to say about pretty much everything.

Question 1: What was one of your most memorable moments you had in a tournament?

When Black Ops was the highlight of the Call of Duty franchise and the main game in FPS tournaments, I played at the Devastation Tournament in Phoenix. It was 4v4 playing Search and Destroy as the last game of the tournament. I was stoked because it was my favorite game type since that was what our game type focus when I was on a MLG Pro Team for Modern Warfare 2. I’ve had hours and hours of practice carrying and diffusing the bomb… it was like second nature for me.When the first round of the last game of the tournament started I was nervous as hell.

We had people watching behind our backs and especially since I’m a girl in a “man’s world” all eyes were on me. I bombed it first round. I just failed. I was so embarrassed and irritated. I didn’t want to lose it though. We went 5 rounds back and forth against the other team… a pretty steady battle was happening. The final round my score ended up to be 11-0. We didn’t win the match but I went crazy! I was doing things that were defying Call of Duty gravity and just owning the other team. I was satisfied in my performance especially when I turned around I had everyone in awe!

Question 2: Being a pro at Call of Duty is much different than World of Warcraft, what got you into playing the most popular MMO? Did you ever experience end-game content?

I started playing World of Warcraft when I was 20. I was going through a rough time and it kept me busy, mentally. My first toon was an undead rogue called “imamess”. She looked all kinds of messed up. I didn’t get into WoW that much playing Horde, so I started a new toon on an Alliance server called Jaedenar. If you played on that server you knew who I was “BritBrit“. I’m pretty sure you can still look up loads of trash talking on the forums and drama in the forums. That server was so small I couldn’t take it anymore.

I was a part of an endgame guild that wasn’t progressing due to lack of active and motivated players. My guild left and transferred to another server and joined another guild called “Stygian”. They were all about raiding and playing end game content. It was also in this guild where I met my husband. You really get to know someone when playing games for 6-8 hours straight for years. I killed end game bosses in vanilla, I killed Illidan when he was hard… I slapped around The Lich King in heroic mode… and then I stopped playing when I received a sea horse mount in Cataclysm. I was like… WTF IS THIS… and decided to focus on console gaming. I always played games like Call of Duty during my downtime when raiding and playing WoW. I quit the game and focused on games like Halo and Call of Duty. They were much more competitive and entertaining than farming gear in WoW on a sea horse.

Question 3: Do you have goals that tie in with being apart of The Game Fanatics and/or the gaming community?

Absolutely. I want The Game Fanatics to prosper in the gaming industry. I use my internet marketing, PR, online reputation management and SEO specialty skills to benefit TGF. I am hoping that with our viewership and our goals as a team one day The Game Fanatics can be a top news source for gamers everywhere. Everyone wants to be famous. Hell, so do I, but I want to be humble about it. I want the whole staff to succeed and benefit from the rewards of being a prominent news source online.

Question 4: How did you become interested in online journalism and what attracted you to The Game Fanatics?

I’ve always had an opinion. If you know me you know this is a very true statement. I will tell you how it is and what I think about it. This led me to wanting to write my opinion and thoughts for everyone to see. When I had the chance to express myself and feeling about video games and the industry I took it. Especially since women don’t play a massive prominent role in the industry since it is dominated by men.

Watch out though. There are more female game designers, female industry leaders and female gamers than there ever were… and when I say female gamers, I mean the gamers that were bred by Super Mario Brothers. Not those fake skanky teens who got an Xbox or PS3 to impress men and take photos of yourselves sexing your controllers and who put [GIRL] in their gamer tag online. Yeah you know who you are. You don’t shut up in public lobbies and talk about how you’re a girl to get attention. YOU ARE NOT GAMERS! You are fake attention seeking drama queens who give real women gamers a bad name.

See!? I told you I had an opinion. ^___^

Question 5: Jedi or Sith? Why?

What kind of question is this? How can I answer this truthfully? I love the villains in Star Wars. I love Han Solo. I love Stormtroopers and I love Ewoks. Luke Skywalker will always bug me. Jar Jar Binks can die 1,000 times over and over again and I’d be ok with that. I love the history and stories that many don’t know about Star Wars. I’m a huge supporter of the Empire since I like the bad guys and their emblem is cool, but I really have to think about it… (Hours go by before next paragraph)

I’d have to say I’d have to choose the Jedi. The Force powers can only be used for good. If I had the choice I would be one. I would still build my own Deathstar but I would party on it and not blow up planets. I decided this after a long debate with myself thinking about the pros and cons of the “good guy” or a “bad guy” and what I would want to be. Hell, Anakin Skywalker once was a good guy once. If you think about it he became what he was out of love… and even in the end, Anakin returned to being a good guy… right before he killed his mentor and for that reason alone I couldn’t be a Sith or support them. The Sith kill off their masters by the “Rule of Two” one way or another. I don’t think I could participate in such heinous acts to someone that mentored me and gave me inner strength.

If any Sith decided to take out Jar Jar Binks for real (pics or it didn’t happen), that I would forever choose the Sith. JUST SAYING.
